Putting the Human Back at the Centre of the Industrial Digital Landscape with a Smart Voice Assistant

Abstract
The industrial sector is undergoing a rapid digital transformation, driven by the development of robotics, artificial intelligence, digital twins and connected operational tools. In nuclear decommissioning and other complex industrial environments, these technologies promise better planning, safer interventions, improved traceability and more reliable processes. However, the success of digital transformation cannot be measured only by the sophistication of the technology deployed. It must also be measured by its capacity to support the men and women who perform the work in real operational conditions.
Field operators often work in constrained environments where gloves, sometimes heavy and cumbersome protective equipment, noise, limited visibility, contamination risks and unstable connectivity make the use of conventional digital tools difficult. Tablets can be heavy or impractical. Smartphones are often too small, inaccessible or unsafe to manipulate during an intervention. As a result, operators may still rely on memory during the task and complete reports only afterwards, creating risks for safety, data quality, operational feedback and process traceability.
This presentation introduces SPIX Industry’s Smart Voice Assistant as a human-centred interface designed to make digital tools more compatible with real industrial environments. By allowing operators to access procedures, complete forms, generate reports and interact with digital content by voice, the solution helps reduce manual interaction with screens and devices during field work. Operators can keep their hands available, their eyes focused on the task, and their protective equipment in place while still producing structured and reliable operational data in real time.
The Smart Voice Assistant can operate in offline mode and can be connected to third-party software, making it suitable for constrained environments where network access cannot always be guaranteed. Its dialogue-based interaction also supports the completeness and consistency of reports by guiding the operator step by step, while remaining adaptable to different levels of experience.
Through industrial and nuclear-sector use cases, SPIX Industry will show how voice assistance can improve the practical usability of digital systems in the field. The objective is to design technology that supports the operator’s real activity: making interventions easier to document, reducing friction with digital tools, improving safety, and strengthening the link between field work and the wider digital landscape.
